R.J Hanson has spent much of his life searching for purpose, even during seasons when he felt he had little choice in the direction his life was taking. Early on, his plans often seemed to be shaped by what his parents wanted for him. As he grew older, circumstances, responsibilities, and the needs of others continued to influence many of the decisions he made.

When Roy first moved to Texas, he was often viewed as a Yankee and even a foreigner. Though that experience was difficult, it ultimately shaped something meaningful in him. It taught him to recognize those who felt like outsiders and strengthened his compassion for people who had no one to stand beside them.

Throughout his life, Roy’s greatest pursuit has been to know God and understand the purpose He had for his life. At one point, Roy dreamed of becoming a missionary in Africa. Although that particular dream never came to pass, his desire to learn, serve, and discover God’s purpose never faded. His faith continued to drive him forward, and he never stopped searching for the reason God had placed him where he was.

For Roy, a career was never his identity. Work was simply something he did; it was never who he was. He has always believed that a person’s purpose reaches far beyond a job or a title.

The past year brought one of the most difficult seasons of Roy’s life as his daughter faced cancer. Through that experience, life took another unexpected turn when Roy was given the opportunity to write a book. At first, he wasn’t sure whether he should do it—and sometimes he still wonders. But ultimately, he decided to take the step.

This book is part of that journey: a journey of faith, uncertainty, perseverance, and a lifelong desire to understand God’s purpose. Roy writes not because he has all the answers, but because he has spent a lifetime searching for them.
